Hmmm.... so there's a new study bible from Ignatius on the RSV-2? Does this mean there's not going to be a full Ignatius Catholic Study Bible?
Or is this going to be something along the lines of what Oxford has; two study bibles geared towards different levels (in this case, different sets of commentary)?

Bible + Tradition + Magesterium all under one cover!? This may be the greatest Catholic edition of the Bible to date! Seriously though, when Catholic Bible readers are asked what features they want in a Bible, what are the most common responses? RSV translation, cross references, book introductions, maps, apologetics, glossary, index... I think this one fits the bill!
I haven't seen inside this edition yet (where are the sample pages!?) but the fact that Midwest Theological Forum is on board is very reassuring. I am wondering if the collaboration with MTF involves the content or the printing of the book block, but my guess is both. MTF has an excellent Daily Roman Missal with tons of quality bonus content (I particularly like the examination of conscience) and has slightly thinner pages than the Ignatius books. The Didache edition is still 6 x 9 like the RSV-2CE, but has 1960 pages compared to the 1096 of the RSV-2CE. A thinner paper could keep this portable and easy to hold like the RSV-2CE, which is thin already at just over and inch thick. This whole thing also makes me wonder is MTF will be involved in printing the book blocks for the complete Study Bible in the next couple years....
I am really excited about this Bible (if you couldn't tell already.) I have been using the RSV-2CE this year for the majority of my family devotions (alongside the Challoner Douay Rheims), and I can't deny that I do prefer the 2nd edition overall. It's light revision just smooths out some of the quirkiness of the original RSV that both Catholics and Protestants have found distasteful, and I think it is actually a better choice for ecumenical interaction than the original RSV-CE. I am glad to see it honored by being the text for this cool edition. This is going to be a great take-anywhere companion Bible for personal devotion, apologetics, RCIA, and is affordable enough to gift. Thank you again, Ignatius Press!
I'm happy to hear of such a product, but a little upset that I bought an RSV 2CE about 2 months ago. I would have much preferred to have this one. Hopefully I will be able to give the old one away.

It's sad that Ignatius still doesn't publish a full pocket RSV-2CE...
I wish we would see a similar project for the NRSV which young people much prefer over the RSV.
I'm definitely interested in this and looking forward to seeing what it looks like inside and out -- cover design, fonts, placement of notes, etc. Also, I really like scalloped/notched thumb indexing, but am I wrong in believing Oxford UP is just about the only publisher still doing that? There's probably no chance of getting that here....
That looks like another promising bible from Ignatius.
Unfortunately, it also - IMO - looks like another ugly cover, too! I wish they'd learn how to tone it down over there.

Will this bible have the full rsv-2ce cross references? Most of the newly released rsv's do not and it would be a shame to have yet another catholic study bible that can't fully be used for study.

I would suggest this edition is aimed squarely at Catholic high school students (and adults fairly new to the Bible). It clearly complements MTF's series of 4 high school Catholic teaching books--The Didache Series. The series book on Scripture, by Hahn, is a particular standout and with stunning graphics. For a high school intro to Scripture it is hard to imagine anything finer exists. Production values on this book should be excellent, and the 106 apologetic units and its being
"accessible by all people in its level of scriptural scholarship" seems to indicate something a bit less complex than the ICSB. Very much looking forward to it!
Well, I just saw online today that the Didache Bible is not coming out until December or January. I 'pre-ordered' my copy on September 2nd thinking, 'There must not be any delays in its publication or else they would have said so by this point" because the publication date was said to be October 1st. I was wrong. Ignatius has turned out to be a disappointment in terms of Bible delivery yet again! Now anyone who wants a copy - for what they were told would come out on Oct. 1st - will have to wait another 2 or 3 months.
