The Knox Bible is Here

Many, including myself, have been eagerly awaiting the publication of the Knox Bible from Baronius Press. Well, the wait is almost over. And get this, Baronius Press has actually published a website in order to promote and introduce the Knox Bible to a new generation of readers.  Although in its infant stage, this new website already has some great info on the Knox Bible, as well as some helpful links.  I hope to have a review of the new Knox Bible in the coming weeks.  This is another great resource as we enter the "Year of Faith" on October 11th.

Dr. Scott Hahn, who composed the forward to this new edition, remarks:  "Msgr. Knox had a profound love for Sacred Scripture, a passion was to make the Bible accessible to as many people as possible … In the Knox translation, clarity is paramount."

Great news. However, the website says the Knox Bible is ready but without any information about how to purchase a copy. The regular Baronius Press website has no further information.

I have a Knox Bible (red hardcover) that I snagged at a used book store years ago. Baronius website mentions Ven. Fulton Sheen as commenting on the Knox Translation as his favorite but he must have changed his mind soon after 1970, for he often promoted the New English Bible as his favorite available version. Will the new Knox Bible receive an imprimatur or does the old one carry over?

The Knox Bible should be available in the next couple days.

I don't know yet about Imprimatur, but will let you know.

Dr. Hahn is great and marketable, but I swear, he's not the only Catholic scholar capable of remarking upon Scripture. Seriously, other voices need to be heard and considered.

@Colleague:

Thank you so much for saying this! Scott Hahn is simply the go-to for instant acceptance by the neo-conservative Catholic community. Truly, Hahn is much more of an apologist than a true scripture scholar.

I agree that many more learned and capable Scripture scholars need to be heard in the Catholic community.

I was just wondering if this is the original version with the 'thees and thous'?

Yes, it is the original.

Regarding those other scholars who "need to be heard": why are they not being heard?. In the age of the internet, when publishing one's thought is as easy as what I'm doing right now, if one is not being heard, it may just be that one does not want to.
Unless, of course, what was meant was that we need to hear less of Mr. Hahn.

Anon,

I agree that Hahn shouldn't be te go-to-guy all the time, but he is certainly a legit scripture scholar. He not only publishes popular works, but also academic ones as well. His recent work "Kinship by Covenant' is a major scholarly work, which has been endorsed by numerous scripture scholars like Scot McKnight. He is also published in the CBA Quarterly.

So yes, there are others scholars that we should hear more about, but that doesn't take away from Dr Hahn's legitimacy as a solid scripture scholar.

Hell yes! I'm buying it! Now!

I've been on the lookout for these even in the used book market for years, and never found one. I had the cheap facsimile of the NT, but only read parts of the OT online. From all I've seen, this is one of four or full English Bibles (KJV, NKJV, DRC, ESV, NASB, along with the partial NETS, OSB [NKJV warmed over with LXX], CCD, Brenton) that I recommend and use with only minor reservations, and the second one, and only one in slightly modern language, that has the full canon where it should be (although one can get the KJV w/ Apocrypha in attractive editions, the ESV w/ Apocrypha is only available in one pretty poor one).

If only it came in Goat, or at least is bound by sewing and can be re-bound, it might give my massive, goat-bound, pulpit-sized New Cambridge Paragraph Bible with "Apocrypha" a run for its money.

Tim,

On the Baronius website, it looks like this edition is single-column. Can you confirm?
