New RSV-CE Audio CD

This sort of snuck up on me, but coming next month from Zondervan, is an all new audio version of the RSV-CE. It looks quite fantastic! The Truth and Life audio Bible may be the first fully dramatized audio Catholic Bible on the market. I hope we get to hear and see more about this in the coming weeks.
The Truth and Life website contains some sound/visual clips for you to experience. If interested in pre-ordering this new audio Bible, you can check out the Zondervan site for more information.
Here is a brief description from the product's website:

Voiced by internationally-renowned actors including: Neal McDonough, Kristen Bell, Sean Astin, Michael York, Blair Underwood, Malcolm McDowell, Stacy Keach, Brian Cox, Julia Ormond, John Rhys-Davies and many more. The Truth & Life audio New Testament is a first of its kind dramatized audio Bible from the RSV-CE translation and distributed by Zondervan.
From Chicago to Hollywood to New York and beyond... over 70 actors, 20 audio engineers in 10 studios over 3 continents contributed to the creation of this unique audio New Testament.
More than 100 media development experts and 10,000 production hours were needed to complete this ambitious project.
The complete audio New Testament is 22 hours shipped on 18 CDs.

Looks interesting, Timothy. I wonder how our reception of Scripture via this kind of medium is affected? I don't believe there is any doubt at all concerning the effects of physical location upon the individual's reception of text. There's an awful lot of variants in play when you consider that this is not only an auditory 'text', but will be nuanced by dramatic conventions, and individual associations with particular actors etc, and their own idiosyncracies. Not sure about you, but Michael York's rendition of John the Baptist in 'Jesus of Nazareth' could never quite work for me in the wake of 'Logan's Run'.

Just getting off topic a little, Timothy: The ISBNT - hardback or leather edition: which should I buy? I have the electronic edition on my Bebook, but it's no good for quick referencing.

Daz,

Good points on the audio Bible.

As for the ICSBNT, I would stick with the hardcover. While I think it is an awesome resource, it is pretty large. I tend to use it as reference, not so much as something I take with me around to Bible study. I hope the completed edition is a bit more compact.

Thanks, Timothy - hardcover it is! Yes, if the NT is unwieldy then they're going to have to do some serious compacting for the completed edition. Genesis is out at the end of this month I believe?

Thanks again.

Sorry to go off topic again, Timothy, but have you taken a look into the Complete Jewish Bible at all, or, at least, the Stern translation of the NT? Just wondering...

Daz,

No, not at this point. Perhaps in the future though.

Thank you for your blog article. The Truth & Life Audio Bible will be released this week and probably in stores by early November. It will also be available at iTunes shortly. You can visit truthandlifebible.com to hear excerpts and see some behind the scenes footage.

Carl,

I am glad to hear that it will be released on I-tunes. I am sure that will be the way in which I purchase this exciting new audio Bible. Many blessing to you and all involved in this project!
