One should ask those who dispute why we even celebrate Easter itself. It's not told to be celebrated in the Bible either (although, funnily, this is the Jehovah's Witness excuse why they don't do it. At least they're consistent. Sigh).
Although I heard somewhere that early Christians baptized on the Saturday before Easter. Not Easter itself. But yes, Holy Week and then Lent was preparation.. and I suppose it started applying to everyone?
