A Gentle Reminder

This blog is a place for constructive discussion on issues related to Catholic Bibles.  One does not have to agree with a post, nor does one have to like a particular translation, in order to be involved in the conversations here.  For some reason, perhaps due to the current political climate, there has been a dramatic increase in comments that I have deleted because of their tone and content.  Please make sure your comments are courteous and provide some sort of data to support them.  Also, if you desire to post anonymously, please add some name at the end of the post so that people know who to engage with by name.

Social media in general is becoming an ugly place on the Internet. I've been using it much less lately because of that. Even family and "friends" are rude and crude on it.

In years past I have felt the need to give up certain religious blogs for lent. Which is ironic. They were messing with my serenity.

I find myself getting caught up in the negativity myself on occasion. I try to always be respectful and avoid snark, but sometimes I get caught up in an argument and want to prove the other guy wrong. That's not good!

Totally true! I have seen "friends" of on of my mutual friend's leave nasty comments.

Not a Jewish reminder? (I tease; I make typos all the time.)

:) Yes! I need to stop reading the Bible! :)

(Thanks for the catch!)

I gave up social media for Lent, and since the Easter season has started, I haven't had much desire to go back. I'm seriously considering leaving it behind for good. The signal-to-noise ratio has always been low on those sites, and in the current climate the noise is more rude and toxic than ever.

I gave up the Facebook news feed for Lent, and after a few days of checking it, decided life is better without it. Now I just go to a friend's page and see what they post, or send that person a message to check in and see how he or she is doing.

I hope this blog goes back to it's usual friendly atmosphere. It's the only way I can discuss the Bible with fellow Catholics.

Full agreement here. I can understand a bit of friendly bantering back and forth (perhaps to obtain clarity regarding an issue), but no need whatsoever for a lack of courtesy.

Tim, thanks for calling us "back" to where we belong.

Good reminder. I hope everyone keeps that in mind before writing a comment.

Tim, I commend you for maintaining this forum! Since I see the version that you have done the work of filtering, I see GOLD :) The faith community dialogue is most appreciated!!

Thank you, Timothy. This blog is a wonderful place. Please know we regular readers and commenters appreciate it!

Tim, there should be no debates. After all, wasn't the King James Version handed personally to Paul at Pentecost, with explicit instructions that it will be the only version thou shalt read (in Elizabethan English no less).

(Yes, I know the only thing true in the preceding is the part about KJV being Elizabethan English-just trying to keep the mood light and entertaining-I really have nothing substantive to add, but wanted to make sure people knew I wasn't dead yet).

Timothy,

This is one of my favorite blogs to check up on because of the positivity you bring to your posts and to the enthusiasm of the commentators. In all things charity -- i very much think we all need to be reminded of that principle (myself most of all). Thanks for all you do and for providing us with a wonderful place to talk about God's Word written.
