Update on CSB NABRE

One of my contacts has told me that the Catholic Study Bible NABRE will be updated on the next printing. (If you are not sure what I am talking about, read the comments from this recent blog post here.) The reason it wasn't updated was that they wanted to move early to have the text available for fall classes. However, the Catholic Personal Study Bible NABRE was updated and will be available at the end of October.

I am sure this news will not provide any solace to those of us who purchased the first printing, but alas that is what is going on.

Timothy,

I was going to pick up the CSB NABRE this weekend. I have the 1990 version. Was that the original CSB? How have the notes/reader's guide evolved since that (1st?) edition? Would you recommend I wait until the next printing before I purchase it?

Best,
Joe

Color me furious. However, it makes it quite easy for me to return the book now.

Well I sure consider myself lucky. I was out shopping at a used book store about three weeks ago and came across a NOAB 3rd edition burgundy leather, still in the box and in pristine condition. I decided I couldn't have both it and the new CSB at this time so I bought the NOAB and came home and cancelled the CSB order. After reading all the posts I am glad things worked out the way they did.

Any indication when that next printing will be?

I might have some sympathy for this explanation, except for the fact that Oxford released the bonded leather edition at the same time. Presumably, the bonded leather edition -- unlike the hardcover edition -- is not intended for "fall classes." In fact, in the past Oxford has sometimes only released a single run of leather printings.

If Oxford were being honest, wouldn't it make more sense to hold off on the bonded leather edition until the second printing?

Anon,

Not sure on a publication date, but will let you know if I find out.

Theophrastus,

To your question, the answer is simply yes. They should have held off with the bonded leather edition.

I talked to Customer Service at Oxford UP today 9/9/11 about the notes etc. for the new Catholic Study Bible NABRE and was told "it is not going to be revised."

Anon,

I wonder if the person you talked with was referring to the reading guide in general or simply making the correct changes to the current reading guide in order that it agree with the NABRE OT? Maybe we will here something in the future.

Does anyone know if the CSB has been updated to correct these ridiculous issues? Thanks.

I examined a copy recently and the same problems persist. I have attempted to get an answer from Oxford but without success.

Okay, thank you, Timothy.
