  1. Timothy,

Thanks for passing along this sale.

Oxford is also having a sale: 30% off religion books, including most of their bibles:

  2. Even at 20% off, it is still more expensive than the Ignatius Bible edition.

No doubt that is because of the somewhat bizarre insistence by the USCCB (or whoever owns the copyright on the NABRE) on including the NABRE notes, thereby doubling the length of the text.

  3. Actually, no, the NABRE edition is priced lower than the Ignatius edition.

  5. "Actually, no, the NABRE edition is priced lower than the Ignatius edition."

I'm confused, where are you getting this pricing information?

The Ignatius Bible Edition is $39.99, or $35 at Amazon.

    The NABRE edition is $59

    Where is the NABRE cheaper?

He is talking about the retail prices on Midwest Theological Forum's website.

You'll see that the NABRE is more expensive when comparing the
    NON-discounted prices.
    SALE SALE
    Leather Hardcover Leather Hardcover
    NABRE 64.99 44.99 51.99 35.99
    RSV2CE 59.99 39.99 ----- -----

They're not having a "SALE" for the RSV2CE

Remember, the NABRE has two sets of notes:
    (1) the same MTF notes as in the RSV2CE
    (2) and also the USCCB official notes

And thus is 500 or so more pages which makes the NABRE more expensive.

  8. "And thus is 500 or so more pages which makes the NABRE more expensive."

Which is precisely what I thought, that's why I got the Ignatius Edition.

  9. Biblical Catholic,

I'm looking at the prices on the website and, unless I"m reading something wrong, this is the price of each edition:

    Leather Ignatius: $59.99
    Leather NABRE: $51.99

    Hardcover Ignatius: $39.99
    Hardcover NABRE: $35.99

I'm sure you can find a copy of either one elsewhere and save a few bucks, but on the MTF website, for both leather and hardcover, the NABRE is cheaper.

  10. JDH,

Those are the sale prices. The regular price NABRE is much more expensive than the regular price Ignatius edition.

But I can see that I was comparing the leather edition NABRE to the hardcover Ignatius. But without the sale price, the NABRE is more expensive.

  11. JDH,
Technically you're correct, but you're comparing
sale price for NABRE vs. retail for RSV2CE(Ignatius)

    RETAIL
    Leather Ignatius: $59.99
    Leather NABRE: $64.99 ---- $51.99 SALE

    Hardcover Ignatius: $39.99
    Hardcover NABRE: $44.99 ---- $35.99 SALE

  12. I'm a little surprised by how much confusion my comment has produced. I am aware there is a sale going on. That is the point of the post we are all commenting on. My comment was simply correcting Biblical Catholic's statement that "Even at 20% off, it is still more expensive than the Ignatius Bible edition."

I suspected he was comparing leather to hardcover, but regardless, I was just pointing out that the NABRE editions are actually less expensive than the Ignatius editions right now.
