Timothy, I feel your pain (though it doesn't feel bad), I have several stacks of leather Bibles on several bookshelves in my reading room and another stack in my living room. I also cry everyday, 'O Oxford, Cambridge, Ignatius Press, CBPCO, Thomas Nelson...and you others, what have you done to me!?!
I do wish the red/burgundy/crimson/whatever editions were readily available. They are now nearly impossible to find anywhere. I've seen a grand whopping total of 2 red Oxford NRSV Bibles, both only in pictures (yours, Timothy, and another friend's). They look great! I would buy one (several)! Alas, they are not to be found anymore.
Jason, I bought the burgundy Oxford NSV Catholic Edition online, via Amazon for under 100 with shipping to Canada. And that was thanks to Theophrastus posting ISBNs on Timothy's older article. It was in the original shrink wrap! Mine is minus the tabs, which for me is great. The "Berkshire' leather {pigskin} had sat so long it was a little stiff but with some leather rubbing oil and ridiculous, fastidious repeated applications and rubbing, it is almost as sweet as that Cambridge Moroccan NRSV with "Apocrypha". Mine is, woo hoo, Anglicized. I was just looking for the ISBN now but oddly it is not printed inside the book. It is in the comments of Timothy's re-post on that edition.
O Oxford, is to true. I think we all need a BA's group to attend weekly. ;-)
P.S. Admitting the depth of my illness I confess I also used some brown/tan shoe cream with my applications of oil and have taken the rather too grape burgundy tone down to my taste. I know, I know . . . I know.
I will set up a Facebook page where we will have virtual B.A. meetings on a monthly basis. Although I have a feeling it will descend into show-and -tell!
Timothy, clearly I am a card carrying member already.
Jason, or anyone else, here it is, http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0195282736/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A20VJ23WEYHNQI cheaper by far than anywhere. When I bought a month ago there were 5 available. Now two and it's now 80 USD. Best of luck.

Love them, Tim; especially those stylish burgundy volumes.
ReplyDeleteGreat content and nice bindings, without breaking the bank!
