I know I am a little late in reporting this, but Bible Gateway now has both the RSV and NRSV, including the Catholic editions, available for search.
From the Blog:
We have some very exciting news today: the Revised Standard Version
(RSV) and New Revised Standard Version (NRSV) Bibles are now available on Bible
Gateway!
Both the RSV
and NRSV
have been published in several different editions for different audiences, and
they’re all available on Bible Gateway. In addition to the RSV and NRSV, you’ll
find the Anglicized
NRSV, Catholic
editions of the RSV
and NRSV,
and the Anglicized
Catholic NRSV.
It's about time.
ReplyDeleteWhat? That they are up on Bible Gateway or that I finally did a post about it? ;)
ReplyDeleteUh.... Both?
ReplyDelete;)
(BG site. I've been waiting for them to get this added to their list since late last year.)
I am happy to see them expanding their offerings, the RSV, NRSV and the Knox Bible....now they just need to get the NAB....
ReplyDeleteI always assumed, based on the selection of Bibles they have there, that they were just an evangelical Protestant group and the Bible selections reflected their bias.....I guess it was really more a question of getting the legal right to use the texts in question that any bias. The NASB, ESV, NIV and HCSB people are really generous about their copyright, the National Council of Churches and the Catholic bishops on the other hand are much less so.....and probably for the same reason: sales of the Bible are a significant source of revenue.
YouVersion just added NABRE today.
ReplyDeleteWow.....is there new leadership there or something? All these additions in a short time is almost enough to make me wonder if they've changed their policies or something....
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeletehmm...the NABRE is available online....(not an audio version unfortunately hopefully that will come in time, there is an excellent 'official' audio NT already available at Audible.com)..but it is not available on the mobile version....do they just not have the rights to publish it as a mobile version or do they need to send out an update of the mobile app to add a new version?
ReplyDeleteI translate interfaces for YouVersion and have been lobbying them, one could say, to include more Catholic Bibles in English, Spanish, and Arabic beyond the DRC (DRA) and the CPDV and, to my last knowledge, none in Spanish (unless one counts the LBLA...). I doubt I've had any influence, because I've never lobbied for the NABRE.
ReplyDeleteGive it time. Bible Gateway does not have the RSV/NRSV available on their mobile app yet either.
ReplyDeleteWell my question actually was whether they need to send out a software update to add a new version to the mobile app....does anybody know?
ReplyDeleteNo, they don't technically need to send out a software update, as the app is merely an interface for Bible versions and APIs that are hosted on the Web; it's like YouTube: they don't have to update the YouTube app every time there's a new video posted.
ReplyDeleteHowever, YouVersion is probably poorly coded and is most definitely buggy once you get to working with the guts of it (especially if you want it to run off of any kind of external storage, or read "offline Bibles" - ones that are downloaded and don't access the online repisitories and API - from an SD card), and most of the times new versions have come out, the app is updated - but not as an absolute rule.
Apparently, it will require a software update, the NABRE is showing up in the iOS app, but not in the Blackberry or Androids apps, the difference is that the iOS app was updated this week....the others weren't....
ReplyDeleteHello Tim and everyone,
ReplyDeleteI recently wrote the Bible Gateway folks about the possibility of adding the RSV-2CE to the site. They wrote back:
Greetings from Bible Gateway.
Thanks so much for your interest in seeing the RSV second Catholic Edition on Bible Gateway. We have forwarded your request to the appropriate department for their consideration.
God bless your day,
Bible Gateway Customer Care
While I love the RSV-CE, I love the RSV-2CE even better.
Thanks for doing that! We need to make our voices heard at sites like that. Make sure to email Ignatius too!
